Cloned Cows And Test Tube Meat - Is This The Future?

As the predicted worldwide food crisis looms over our heads the meat production industry is looking towards alternative methods of satisfying the human need for protein rich red meat. I recently ran across two very interesting articles; one that focuses on the cloned cow Deborah 3, and one that claims laboratory grown meat is in our future. The cloning of cows, or any animal for that matter, presents a moral quagmire that could be debated endlessly; but let’s put that issue aside for now… According to the FDA cloned meat is perfectly safe for human consumption, and presents no additional health risks compared to meat from naturally born livestock. The so called test tube meat, however, has me a bit concerned. Perhaps it’s the vision presented by Dr. Vladimir Mironov of a, “coffee maker sized device” sitting on your kitchen counter growing meat that makes me think of some bad sci-fi movie… But I digress… Perhaps it is time for a major change in the way we raise, harvest, and distribute the meat that most humans enjoy. Check out these two articles, and do some additional research; make up your mind and pick a side before it’s too late to make a choice for yourself.
